COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER

About Us: GDX is a dynamic organization committed to promoting human rights, social justice, and community development, with a particular focus on supporting trans and gender diverse communities. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Community Engagement Officer to help strengthen our work with trans and gender diverse communities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
-
A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Community Development, or a related field is required
-
Experience and deep understanding of human rights and development sector work
-
Experience in working with trans, gender and body diverse persons and communities
-
Understanding and experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including service providers
-
Understanding of gender affirming health care needs of trans diverse persons highly sought after
-
Working experience in the region beyond South Africa is also an advantage
-
Computer literacy a must
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Report to and support the Community Engagement Manager
-
Report on a monthly basis regarding all community engagement matters and activities
-
Ensure and maintain a good working relationship with the stakeholders and partners
-
Conceptualize new projects in-line with the organizational strategic plan to advance the health rights and wellbeing of trans diverse persons

Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on projects
-
Independent research on behalf of the organization

Facilitate engagement with national trans movements, building initiatives and support for national support groups as well as community-based organizations
-
Work closely with the media team to enhance the organization’s media advocacy and outreach
-
Representation of GDX in the community physically and in on-line spaces in raising awareness around trans and diverse persons realities, risks and challenges

Check the GDX info line on a daily basis

Respond to constituents within 48 to 72 hours on receipt for information

FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Preference will be given to trans and gender diverse persons, LGBTQI+ people and women in their diversities

The applicant must be based in Cape Town
-
If the applicant is not a South African citizen or permanent resident such applicant must be in the possession of a valid work permit at the time of commencing with the contract; or must be able to display that they are able to obtain such work permit by satisfactory application of legal permit requirements

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Project management skills to plan, manage and coordinate projects, partners, people, and budgets

Report writing skills

Organizational, writing, analytical and administrative skills

Confidence in using information and communication technology

Ability to facilitate and train

Proficiency in using English as a medium of communication and learning; ability to communicate in multiple languages will be an added advantage
