Gender Dynamix has made a written submission to the Department of Home Affairs on the White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection: Towards a Complete Overhaul of the Migration System in South Africa that was signed and released by the Minister of Home Affairs on 10 November 2023.

 

In this written submission, GDX points out the omission of issues related to trans and gender diverse migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. We further call on the Minister to reassess the withdrawal from the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol and highlights the dire consequences that this withdrawal might have on trans and gender diverse migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
