Many people find it hard to understand who (or what) a Trans or gender variant person might be or look like. Often it is to media images they look, and then think just of those transsexual people born male who undergo the long and arduous medical transformation of their body from man to woman. Alternatively, they may think of men who ‘dress up as women’.

The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia will be celebrated this year again on May 17th.  Like every year, the “IDAHO”  (as it is usually called), will see actions and initiatives take place in many countries and contexts and on many different issues. All these activities and initiatives are a very strong signal to all, decisions makers, public opinion, civil rights movements, human rights defenders, etc… throughout the world that our fights for our Rights as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, intersex, etc… is vibrant ! The Day provides all different kind of actors with a very powerful opportunity to express their demands and to advocate for their case.

Transgender People in SA Speak Out in Groundbreaking New DVD PDF Print E-mail

This weekend sees the launch of ‘TRANSformations’ a groundbreaking DVD of short digital stories created by transgender and gender non-conforming people in South Africa. The DVD explores the lives and experiences of the participants and their resilience in the face of considerable adversity. The launch takes place on Saturday, 28 February from 19h00 and is being held at popular venue, Zietsies, in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. The project is a collaboration between Gender DynamiX, Women’sNet and Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action (GALA).
